Maggie has been a Licensed Massage Therapist since 1995 and a Myofascial Release (MFR) Therapist, The John Barnes Approach, since 2012.
Several years after graduating from University of Houston, she found her calling as a massage therapist while she was receiving physical therapy after a whiplash injury. A co-worker mentioned that she’d had a headache for three days. Maggie said, “Sit down, I can get rid of it for you.” Maggie still does not know what made her say that! Yet within 10 minutes of massaging her co-worker’s head, neck and shoulders, Maggie did get rid of the headache. The co-worker told Maggie it felt amazing and she should do massage for a living. That co-worker later became a weekly client.
Nine months after beginning her massage therapy practice in January 1995, Maggie was in a 50 mph car accident caused by a drunk driver. She was unable to practice massage therapy for five years. The chronic pain she experienced, along with the many types of therapy, gave her a deeper empathy and understanding of her clients.
She slowly re-built her strength and her practice doing house calls in Houston, Texas. Many of Maggie’s clients told her she had “magic hands” and that she gave the best massage they ever had. Although she loved her work as a massage therapist and received great feedback from her clients, she became more and more frustrated with the temporary results that many of her clients experienced. Those with chronic pain conditions tended to feel better for several days after each treatment, but often ended up back to where they were by the time the next session came along. She was also frustrated with the incomplete results she experienced from the many traditional therapies she received after her three whiplash injuries. She took continuing education courses in different techniques, searching for something that was more effective. In January 2012, she knew she had found that technique just a few hours into the first day of a three-day Myofascial Release course. She found her deeper calling with Myofascial Release.
She is currently an Intermediate MFR Therapist and is continuing her training toward being an Expert MFR Therapist. MFR treats each person as the unique individual that they are with their unique fascial restrictions, releasing physical, mental and emotional trauma. Her compassionate demeanor helps them feel comfortable so they canexperience deep release and healing.
Maggie moved to Lake Worth Beach in December 2023 and practices both massage therapy and Myofascial Release, working toward a full-time Myofascial Release practice. She enjoys learning about other forms of natural healing, including essential oils and herbs. For fun and fitness, she enjoys inline skating and cycling, walking on the beach, dancing and listening to live music.
